Sioux County Deputy’s to use Body Cameras

SIOUX COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPUTIES WILL SOON BEGIN USING BODY WORN CAMERAS, OR B-W-C. SHERIFF DAN ALTENA SAYS THAT AFTER MUCH RESEARCH THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE PURCHASED THE B-W-C. THEY WILL SYNCHRONIZE WITH THEIR PATROL VEHICLE CAMERA’S THAT ARE ALREADY IN USE. THOSE CAMERA’S RECORDS VIDEO AND AUDIO FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE, AND A CAMERA ALSO RECORDS VIDEO AND UDIO INSIDE THE PATROL VEHICLE. THE B-W-C WILL RECORD VIDEO AND AUDIO IN THOSE INSTANCES WHERE THE DEPUTY IS NOT IN VIEW OF THE PATROL VEHICLE CAMERA’S. ALTENA SAYS THE B-W-C UNITS WILL BE VERY VALUABLE FOR SHERIFF’S OFFICE TRANSPARENCY, EVIDENCE COLLECTION, AND AIDING IN COMPLAINTS AGAINST DEPUTIES, AND CASE PROSECUTIONS.

THE DEPUTIES ARE CURRENTLY GOING THROUGH THE TRAINING PROCESS PERTAINING TO THE USE OF THE B-W-C ALONG WITH UNDERSTANDING THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE POLICY RELATING TO THE BWC. WHEN THAT’S COMPLETED THEY’LL BE ACTIVATED.
