Breaking ground for Sioux Center’s new outdoor aquatic center is just a few months away.
This week, the City Council approved a construction bid for the expanded outdoor water play area, which will include a lazy river, a variety of water slides, a water zip line, more space to swim, and diving boards.
All Season Center Director, Dave Ruter, anticipates the existing outdoor pool will run mostly as normal this summer while work on the new features get underway nearby.
City Manager Scott Wynia noted, since the All Season’s Center was built 16 years ago, planners anticipated a need and desire to add on to the outdoor pool area at some point in the future.
City staff have been collaborating with the project designer and Peska Construction to identify low-impact cost savings in the project, and Wynja said they anticipate seeing those as the project moves forward.
The Council delayed project approval at their last meeting to address the above cost estimate proposal. The council identified $325,000 in savings and approved a revised $6.9 million cost Wednesday.
