Sioux County Jail Ranked “Best of the Best”

The Sioux County Jail in Orange City is one of six jails statewide receiving praise from chief jail inspector for the Iowa Department of Corrections.  Delbert Longley inspects 106 jails each year and says some of the criteria used in his determinations are how prisoners are treated, facility cleanliness, and record-keeping. Longley identified two jails in three size categories based on the number of beds, and calls them the “Best of the Best.”  Dubuque and Marshall Counties ranked highest in the large jail size category of 100 or more beds; Iowa and Sioux Counties ranked highest in the medium sized jails, those with between 26 and 100 beds; Madison and Shelby Counties ranked highest in the small jail size of 25 or fewer beds.
